We increased the caffeine from 80mg to 96mg to ensure each pouch delivers a reliable, effective result—not just a placebo. Our original research pouches were set at 96mg, and we’ve now aligned all product formulations to match that proven dosage. Scientifically, caffeine needs to be above 70mg to have an ergogenic effect on both mind and body. Since buccal (mouth-based) absorption is still emerging science, we chose to stack the formula in your favor. Simply we make them to a specific standard with particular focus on the PH to ensure it is not too acidic. In fact less acidic than say a vegetable.
Our products are deliberating made to be effective, with levels of ingredients that simply work. The ingredients themselves do not have an adverse gum or teeth effects and some ingredients like Xyitol has some evidence to support reducing teeth cavities whilst menthol improves breath freshness.
The mouth has a lot of powerful nerves and particularly the trigeminal nervous system which responds to touch and taste in that area. Particular compounds and flavour trigger this nerve more than others, typically menthol, chilli or strong tastes like say liquor. This gives the brain a lot of stimulus – which can be useful for attention and focus. Everyone’s sensitivity to this varies and also it will vary during the use of the pouch. Just like a mint or a spicy meal. As the pouch sits on the gum this experience is unique to the pouch and we can say it is by far the longest ‘taste moment’ of any product.
Our Fresh product has the highest menthol load and hence for most will produce the highest level of triggering of the trigeminal nerve. This can for some be an intense feeling. Whereas it can be bright and enliven it can for some feel an acute response.
Other than triggering the nerve there isn’t actually anything else going on there.
For the vast majority of people we just don’t see this – for sure other pouch products you may have tried especially nicotine products or say nootropic pouches that haven’t been made with due regard to gum health could do this.
We are all different as humans and for some there is a great sensitivity – for instance some people are even too sensitive to toothpaste to use it.
